A New Year: Lethargy & Calendars

I must admit that even though we are already into the first week of January, that even though the first Monday of the new year is behind us, I just can’t seem to get back into the groove of work. Don’t get me wrong, I have LOTS of ideas and great big plans for this blog, for Daylilies, and even for my own personal creativity this year – I just can’t seem to break myself away from a warm cup of tea to get started. On anything.

I suppose I could explain away my lethargy as the calm after a very busy December, or it could be that with the weather being so cold outside (it was -17 degrees celsius here yesterday), there is just nothing nicer than sitting down in front of a fireplace (even an electric one…) with a nice cup of warm tea. Or, as I have come to think of it, I am just slow to start into this new year only because I don’t have a calendar.

It’s true. Okay, I do have the one that I was handed at the door of the Home Depot during the Christmas rush – you know the one they give you that is all about saving energy and buying from Home Depot? And although that one might technically be called a calendar, it is boring and ugly to look at.

I think that I need a calendar that will make me want to look at it… a calendar that will call me away from my cup of tea… a creative calendar that is about everything I like. (sound selfish enough yet? but if it is my calendar, why can’t it be personalized and be about everything I like? Isn’t that one of the perks of creating things in the first place?)

But what kind of calendar should it be?

I thought that it would be an easy exercise to just google DIY calendar. Ha! There are lots of great print-your-own-calendars available for free, and I guess when I started out down this road, I thought that my calendar would be a personalized version of a print-out calendar, but then I clicked a few links further down the list that looked interesting too. And now, I just can’t make up my mind. Here are the links and ideas I found… I would love your opinions – which ones you like/dislike and why.  Certainly, I might just end up printing and personalizing a calendar, but there is a whole big world of great calendar ideas out there… here are just a few:

Girlrobot.net offers links to a free & nifty printable perpetual desk calendar with pictures and everything ready for you – it is both creative and fun! Also listed on the same page is a really neat idea for a wall calendar featured from photojojo.

Re-nest has a really ‘fresh’ take on a wall calendar with a calendar vase.

And for some truly beautiful and exceptional versions of calendars, check out InspirationBit and the 2010 calendar at nikolin.info

Any thoughts? What does your 2010 calendar look like?
